How a round works

r bazee Teen Patti round start table

Teen Patti is played with a 52-card deck. Each round, the dealer deals three cards to each player. Before the round begins, everyone must place a fixed amount (the boot) into the pot — this is the starting amount of the pot.

After receiving cards, each player decides whether to look at their cards and play Seen, or play without looking (Blind). Blind players place lower bets but cannot see their cards. Seen players can look at their cards before deciding, but their bet amount is doubled.

At each stage, players can either raise their bet (Call/Raise) or fold and leave the round (Fold). At the end, the remaining players show their cards and the one with the highest hand wins the entire pot.

Two Seen players can challenge each other — this is called a Sideshow or Compromise. One player makes the request and the other can accept or refuse. If accepted, the cards are compared and the player with the weaker hand is eliminated.

Hand rankings and values

In Teen Patti, a hand is made up of three cards. The list below is arranged from highest to lowest:

# Hand name Description Example
1 Trio / Set (Trio) Three cards of the same value — the highest hand A–A–A, K–K–K
2 Pure Sequence (Straight Flush) Three consecutive cards of the same suit A–2–3 (♠), Q–K–A (♥)
3 Sequence (Straight / Run) Three consecutive cards, mixed suits 7–8–9 (mixed)
4 Flush (Flush / Colour) Three cards of the same suit, not consecutive 2–5–9 (♦)
5 Pair Two cards of the same value, the third different K–K–7
6 High Card No combination — the highest card determines the hand's value A–9–4 (mixed)

In a tie, the kicker (the other card) is the deciding factor for a Pair. For a Trio, a set of Aces is the strongest, but 2–2–2 is the lowest Trio.

Against the dealer or against other players?

Multiplayer Teen Patti

Most common

Traditional Teen Patti is played among multiple players — direct head-to-head competition. One player acts as the dealer (rotated each round) and the rest compete against each other by betting into the pot. In this mode online, you can play at real-money tables with players from around the world.

Against the dealer (One-on-One)

Live casino format

In the live casino format, the player plays only against the dealer. There is no Blind-Seen strategy here — you place your bet, receive three cards, and your hand is compared against the dealer's. If the dealer's hand does not qualify (usually Queen high or below), part of the bet is automatically returned. This type of live table is available in r bazee's r bazee Casino section.

Both formats offer a different experience. In multiplayer mode, the psychological element is greater — knowing when to bluff and when to fold is the main skill. In the player-vs-dealer mode, understanding card odds and the pay table matters more.

Starting tips for beginners

  • Start with small bets. In the first few rounds, there is no need to put your entire budget in while you are learning the table's rhythm. Build experience by playing at the minimum bet.
  • Practice playing Blind. Many new players hesitate to play without looking at their cards. But staying Blind lets you keep your bets lower and puts psychological pressure on opponents.
  • Memorise the hand rankings. Remember the positions of all six hands — looking up the ranking chart mid-game wastes time and makes it harder to make decisions.
  • Keep the table's minimum bet in mind. Each table has its own boot and limits. Choose a table that fits your budget.
  • Don't be afraid to fold. When you have a weak hand, folding early is the best way to limit losses. Stubbornly playing on will drain your budget quickly.
  • Use the Sideshow option. If you think your hand is weak, try challenging your neighbour to a Sideshow — if their hand is even weaker, they will be eliminated and you stay in.

Popular variants and their features

Several variants have been built on top of the core rules. Each has its own appeal:

Classic Teen Patti

Original rules

The most familiar format — a straightforward Blind-Seen structure with no special cards. Beginners should start with this variant.

Joker Teen Patti

Wild card

One or two Jokers are added to the deck and can take the value of any card. Getting a Joker in hand creates the best possible combination.

Muflis (Low Hand)

Reversed rules

The opposite of the standard rules — the lowest hand wins here. A High Card hand is the strongest and a Trio is the weakest. Experienced players enjoy this variant.

AK47

Specific cards as Joker

Cards with the values Ace, King, 4, and 7 act as Jokers. The dealer designates these cards at the start of each round. The pot can grow quite large.

Teen Patti 20-20

Fast format

Each player receives two hands — three cards each from a 20-card deck. The better of the two hands is chosen. This is a popular online version by JILI.

TeenPatti Joker

JILI online

In JILI's TeenPatti Joker variant, a common Joker card is revealed at the start of each round. All players can use that card in their own hand.

Table etiquette and session management

r bazee Teen Patti session management guide

Good conduct in online Teen Patti is not just about manners — it also improves your game. Keeping a few important points in mind makes the experience much better:

  • Make decisions on time. Each player at the table has a set amount of time. Unnecessary delays spoil the experience for other players and on some tables will trigger an auto-fold.
  • Keep chat respectful. If there is a chat feature at the live table, use measured and polite language. Avoid making unnecessary comments in the heat of the moment.
  • Set a budget before your session. Decide in advance how much you will play with and at what point you will stop — set both limits before you sit down. The responsible gaming page has detailed guidance on this.
  • Avoid long, unbroken sessions. Fatigue and lack of focus increase poor decisions. Make a habit of taking a short break every hour.
  • Don't raise bets emotionally after a loss. Placing a large bet all at once to recover losses after a few losing rounds often leads to even greater losses.
  • Know the rules before you sit down. Understand the specific rules of the variant you are playing. Online, the rules are usually available in the info section of each game.

Common questions about Teen Patti

Blind players bet without looking at their cards and can place lower bets — usually equal to or double the current boot. Seen players look at their cards before deciding, but their minimum bet is double that of a Blind player. Staying Blind gives a psychological edge because opponents cannot tell whether your hand is strong or weak.

A Pure Sequence (Straight Flush) is stronger than a regular Sequence (Straight/Run). In a Pure Sequence, the three cards must be consecutive and all of the same suit. In a regular Sequence, the cards just need to be consecutive — the suits can be mixed. In hand rankings, Pure Sequence is 2nd and regular Sequence is 3rd.

A Sideshow is useful when your hand is average — such as a small Pair or a High Card — and you think your neighbour's hand might be weaker. If you have a strong hand, it is better to raise the bet and grow the pot rather than use a Sideshow. Remember, a Sideshow can only be requested against an adjacent Seen player — not a Blind player.

Yes, in Muflis the hand rankings are completely reversed. The hand that is normally the lowest (High Card) becomes the highest here. The rules for Blind, Seen, Sideshow, and Fold remain the same — only the way hand strength is evaluated changes. Experienced players in this variant need to consciously think in reverse of their usual instincts.
